Booster car seats are also commonly referred to as Belt Positioning Booster seats. This type of car seats can be used facing forward only and the minimum weight requirement is between 30 and 40 pounds. Booster car seats do not have a 5-point harness thus they are recommended only for children 4 years old and above.Booster car seats do not require special installation procedures unlike the other types of car seats. It is not held in the vehicle seat with vehicle lap or shoulder belts or by a latch. Instead, the child is secured in front with the use of the car’s lap and shoulder belts which take the place of the 5-point harness. There are some booster seats that suggest or require the use of a Tether to enhance safety. This type of car seat is also not compatible with strollers.
There are many designs and brands for booster car seats. Still, the primary consideration if you are planning on purchasing one is if your child is ready for it.
